ITHACA NOT FOUND
Based on a personal story of migration, this book refers to the search for a place of “belonging”, after a long back-and-forth journey between two countries, Greece and Great Britain, grieving for losses along the way. The selected references to Homer’s Odyssey concern the part of Odysseus’ return to Ithaca when he is fighting alone in the sea against the continuous obstacles sent by Poseidon. “Ithaca-not-found” is a book illustration which explores the challenges of the search for identity and destination. Inspired by Homer’s Odyssey, it unravels a personal journey of searching for a place that one may call ‘home’. Both stories capture the period of time before the homecoming’s completion highlighting the timeless struggle of a person to discover their own identity and belonging. This project consists of an illustration book, which draw on written autobiographical material, drawings, sketches and photos.
