2020-2021 “A special time”
Meeting OIKA

During the first lockdown I was in England doing the permitted one period of daily exercise outdoors to connect with nature. During the second lockdown the remote Cretan mountains were the safest place to be. Walking in nature became a process of joy and meditation. The absence of people and of urban sounds created a spookiness that led to the creation of new relationships with the landscape. I started to observe the vast skies, paths made by man or animal, geological formations, trees with figure-like shapes, passing by insects and birds. I had been exclusively using my mobile device as a compact portable medium that allowed me to take photos, record my voice and other sounds. Around 50 photos have been processed with the basic editing tools of the mobile device, offering the immediacy that this technology can offer. A selection of these photos were used to create the narrative film "A special time". The sound piece is created in response to the sequence of the selected images and has been created by Terry Vergos.
