This project idea is a continuation of the ongoing project Odes to Water. Influenced by Heraclitus, the philosopher of flux and change, I interpret water as a symbol for continuity, impermanence and timelessness. Water is a necessity for life, bringing at the same time stillness and turbulence, as well as tranquility and fear. There is water between the two countries, England and Greece. I spent several years of uncertainty crossing these waters from North to South and vice versa. This process led me to see the sea as a means of transportation, exploration, escape and freedom, but also α dangerous and vengeful sea. The Song of the Sea, is a project which includes multiple forms of the sea and its forces, such as ocean swells, surging breakers and inshore waves. It includes poetic expressions of frozen moments of water’s constant movement. It consists of a a series of larger-scale works in the form of drawings on wood and digital art on the theme of the multifaceted sea, which are to be exhibited at the Woodstock Museum in Oxford in September 2025. The project is also accompanied by the short film She and the Sea and the book Ithaca Not Found. The film She and the Sea is an adaptation of the illustration and poetry book Ithaca Not Found of the artist, published in 2025. Seven chosen poems create a narrative in response to the forever changing multiple forms of the sea. It is an invite to the viewer to feel connected to water's continuity, impermanence and timelessness. Ithaca Not Found is a bilingual poetry and illustration book that explores the formation of a hybrid identity over a five-year personal journey between Greece and Great Britain. The work draws on the part of Odysseus’ mythical journey to Ithaca, when he struggles alone at sea cursed by Poseidon. These two parallel narratives, mythic and personal, depict the periods of wandering that precede the return, driven by the deep human need for a destination. The book includes selected sketches, created mainly in situ around the theme of water, alongside texts transcribed from audio recordings.
